Mirai Nikki – Volume 7

Yuno's Madness

Yuno going crazy over some little praise.

Volume 7 for the 7th Diary Users. I guess I was wrong. Both of them are the real Sevenths. I just can’t believe that there’d be two of them. The concept left is really interesting in itself.

While Mikami Ai keeps on throwing out her knives, Yuno convincingly defends Yuki with her psychopath skills that she can even knock down the knives. As she has run out of them, they both retreat. Yuki and Yuno follow but to their surprise, Hinata and Mao aren’t there. They’re actually being carried outside by the Sevenths, not involving the people who aren’t Diary Users in a way, as they watch the mansion burn. As a bonus, they provide first-aid to their wounds.

With the strength of their love, the Sevenths go back to the mansion and finish the First and Second once and for all. They end up fighting each other in the middle of the fire. Yuno makes his attack, Marco defends his girl, Yuno gets hit by a knife, and Yuki gets thrown to the bottom as a result of Marco’s pissed off attitude because of how their love fails to outshine theirs.

Yuki wakes up in a hospital with Nishijima, Akise, and Minene (Ninth). His father also makes his appearance. Later, as they both workout together with Minene as their coach, Yuno takes his action to see whether his father is a good guy or not. However, Yuno finds out that his goal is to take Yuki’s phone to cancel his debt. Everything, for Yuki, isn’t going well. He firmly believes that it would never be the case as he has also fell into his belief that his father is going to think about getting remarried with his mother.

Meanwhile, Nishijima searches for the house of Mother Home. Y’know, the one who we always see wearing a creepy costume.

As a deal, they go off to the Sakurami Tower which has been closed for 2 months. The three of them go there and meet with the Sevenths. Yuki tries to take back his diary but easily loses against Marco. While being overthrown by Marco, he sees his father take the cellphone and break it. Fortunately for Yuki, it isn’t his, and the real one is inside the bouquet of flowers Ai has. Yuno takes it, but the building falls off. In a split second, Yuki has to make his decision to choose which hand he trusts more. His father or Yuno?

As expected, it would be Yuno, but to escape the falling building, they go to the observation deck to take the parachutes of the Sevenths. Setting up the plan, Marco goes broadcast room and only sees a recorder, broadcasting Yuki’s words. Yuno is captured by Ai, but Yuki makes his attack to destroy the diary with a dart. Yuno slits Ai’s throat, but not deep enough for her to die from blood loss. Yuki and Yuno gets involved in the same old conflict again about Yuno’s mad tactics to kill them. But while they were distracted, his father takes a parachute and escapes as the building falls off. Yuki, Yuno, and Ai are now trapped, and they get involved in a conflicting decisions again. Marco, even though he is hit by some sort of metal in his stomach, he tries to save Ai by removing the huge block. However, by the time Ai is in the hands of Marco, she has already died. Marco, then, gives them the parachute. And now, losing the belief that they don’t need to be a god to love each other forever, Marco dies peacefully with a strong resolution to die and still love each other eternally.

But by the time Yuno and Yuki reach the ground safely, they see her mother being carried to the hospital with an ambulance. Yuki, losing his mind, looks for some sort of reassurance in his diary that it isn’t his mother, that her mother is still alive. But to his dismay, his mother is dead.

Unbeknownst, Yuki’s father, after landing safely, meets up with her mother. With the insane thinking of his father, he seemingly stabs his mother.

While things were a bit more faster, Yuki is now left in a world without his mother. I wouldn’t be able to take in something as bad as that. Left with the yandere psychopath Yuno? Wow, who would want to lose his mother at such a bad timing.

Yuki has some sort of weird thinking, so it’s hard to tell what he may do next. Will he possibly aim to defeat all the Future Diary Users in a hurry to become the Lord of Space & Time to do something about this? Or will he accept it wholeheartedly and only seek revenge in the culprit for this disaster while defending himself from the Diary Users? There are so many ways for Yuki to take this. Although Yuno might make things worse, at least she might sort of shed some light to Yuki about it when they make a confrontation with his father.

As for the appearance of the Seventh Diary Users in this volume, it was interesting in itself that it is strongly involved with love. It was all in love, from their diaries to their lives, all love, from the beginning when they met each other in the tower, the place where Ai wanted to get married with Marco. It was definitely a tragic ending for them, but on the bright side, they die a death served well.

Looking at this volume as a whole, it isn’t strong, but it is definitely fast-paced. Perhaps, it only used the Sevenths as the introduction of Yuki’s father and the death of Yuki’s mother. Things are undoubtedly going bad for Yuki, but as the reader, the plot is getting stronger, especially in relation to the Eighth Diary User, who has gone against the rules.
